At the start of our conversation, Deepak told me that he is feeling overwhelmed & anxious. He has recently joined a new organization.
He told me that some of the recent conversations with his boss did not go well.
I asked, “What do you want to achieve in today’s session?”
He said, “What do I need to do differently”
“What’s coming in the way?”, I asked.
“Fear of being judged, communication gaps, lack of complete context in my new role, new team, and also my skill to converse.”
He continued, “If I am able to qualify things then I feel much more confident.”
“Ok. What do you mean by qualify?” I asked.
Deepak replied, “The conversations at work have to make sense to me, I need to know why we are doing what we are doing, mapping to my skills and knowledge, timeframe & outcome and understanding of the critical aspects of the task.”
“What’s working well and what’s not?” I asked.
“Nothing is working well, but now I have a framework that I can use in all my conversations. You helped me create a structure that I can use in my meetings.”
Then we discussed the action steps he would take next.
Then I asked, “how are you feeling now?”
“I have clarity now and I am feeling much more confident & relaxed.” Deepak smiled.
